Who We Are

Travelling to learn. It may sound like a cliché, but for us it has always been reality.
As a family with two children, now young adults, we explored the world, immersing ourselves in culture and nature, from tropical beaches to vibrant cities.

Over the years, we stayed in a remarkable variety of places: from simple wooden huts in Goa and charming fishermen’s cottages along the Brazilian coast to refined boutique hotels in the Caribbean where even Hollywood stars come to unwind.
These journeys shaped our idea of what makes a stay truly special. We have always been drawn to places that are aesthetically beautiful: houses with character, thoughtful design and a certain harmony. Yet we also learned that beauty alone is not enough. True comfort matters just as much, and surprisingly, it is something some places tend to forget.

For us, the most memorable places strike a balance between atmosphere, comfort and fair value for money. And above all, we appreciate sincerity. What you see is what you get: no staged perfection, no Instagram façades, just an honest place created with care, where guests can feel at ease.

With a backpack full of experiences, inspiration and enthusiasm, we eventually decided to make our long-standing dream come true: opening our own small boutique B&B.

Emigrating from Belgium to Portugal’s Silver Coast

Our search eventually brought us to Portugal, to the beautiful Silver Coast. In August 2014, we traded our beloved hometown of Ghent for the country where we once spent our honeymoon.

The move itself did not happen overnight. With relatively limited resources but a clear vision, we spent more than two years travelling across the country in search of the right place to realise our dream.

Portugal already held a special place in our hearts. Years earlier, we had spent our honeymoon here, and the country had never quite left us: the light, the landscapes, the Atlantic coast and the relaxed rhythm of life drew us back.

We felt particularly attracted to the Silver Coast, a region that still feels authentic and unspoiled, yet offers incredible variety. Within a relatively small area, you find dramatic Atlantic beaches, historic towns and some of Portugal’s most remarkable cultural landmarks.

When we finally discovered this property in a small rural coastal village just 2 km from the ocean, we immediately knew we had found something special. The location was ideal: close to the beaches of Foz do Arelho, São Martinho do Porto, Nazaré, Peniche and Baleal, and perfectly situated for exploring places such as Óbidos, Alcobaça, Batalha, Fátima and Tomar. Even Lisbon, Sintra and Mafra are easily reached for a day trip.

Another important advantage was the proximity of Caldas da Rainha, only 7 km away. This lively town offers everything needed for daily life, making it an ideal place to build both a family life and a small hospitality project.

The property itself also had exactly what we were looking for: privacy, a practical layout that separates the private house from the guest rooms, manageable grounds and room for future improvements.

But above all, it had soul. Instead of a generic modern villa, we found a centuries-old quinta with character, history and its own authentic windmill. The kind of place that immediately sparks the imagination.

In May 2016 we opened Flamboyant Boutique B&B. Since then, we have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from around the world and sharing with them the beauty of this special corner of Portugal.
